Michael Colby Art Scholarship
An incredibly prolific artist, Michael Colby was a true creative soul, excelling in a broad range of artistic mediums. The Michael Colby Art Scholarship has been developed to financially assist an incoming College Freshman who also exhibits a broad range of budding artistic talents.
Michael grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts, raised in a family where art was very present at all times. Both of his uncles were musicians that played on the same stage as Aerosmith and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. His aunt is an incredibly talented oil painter and his cousin is an award winning songwriter. He attended Full Sail University in Florida where he received his Bachelor in Digital Arts and Design. He received a two national ADDY awards for animation and received the school’s Advanced Achievement Award upon graduating. His work and achievements as a graphic designer and animator are global in scale. Most recognizable is his work as lead animator and designer on video, broadcast, and motion, and branding products for clients including but not limited to HBO, Disney, The History Channel, HGTV, Discovery, and MTV. One of his last projects was in preproduction on a documentary about Muhammed Ali for PBS.

Additionally, Michael produced the graphically inspired clothing line Enthused with his longtime friend Ben Laing. He was also an avid photographer and prolific in digital fine arts. Performance art was also a huge part of Michael's life. He produced, mixed and performed music in many genres and collaborations and had a natural talent for drums. THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Michael Colby Art Scholarship is available to a talented Newburyport High School graduating senior, Michael’s alma mater, who is pursuing a field in the arts and has received confirmation of acceptance to a college or higher institute of learning. Applicants must submit both a NHS External Scholarship Application Form and Supplement Application Form. Financial need is not a requirement of the applicant. The recipient of this scholarship shall receive $2,000.00 towards their education.
THE GOAL
Michael's family and friends hope to nurture future artistic visionaries whose talents and accomplishments reflect Michael's spirit. As long as his legacy is assisting and inspiring new artists his art will never fade.
